O ur house flooded July 8th, and today, the check is finally in the mail

Kinja'd!!!

Three and a half months later, a check for approximately a new Corvette is getting sent. We will in turn have to send it to our mortgage holder to endorse, and then cash it to make up for all the out of pocket costs. We still have one more cabinet that needs to be hung, some toe kicks to be reaffixed, and the new door adjusted. Almost there.

Meanwhile, we went from just after the 4th of July to fall in full effect

We’re probably still a couple weeks out from actually seeing money, so full four months to FEMA reimbursement. In time for black Friday appliance sales, thankfully.

7-9 inches of dirty flood water in the living  room, dinning room, play room, laundry room, kitchen, kitchenette, and half bath. We maxed out our personal possession coverage.

I saw “check” and “Corvette” and started to preemptively get excited and then I realized what actually happened. Glad you’re getting there. Fall colours are nice.

Yeah, the colors are nice, as would be a new Vette.

Back in july we got a 1000 year rain, with 4 inches in 30 minutes, 5 in an hour total. We have a stream behind our house that runs under the road, which of course couldn't handle the volume. 26 inches of water against our house. 7-9 made it in

The rain has been pretty intense the last few years here as well. I got pre-emptive flood insurance which sounds stupid for a desert but there is 0 drainage and things get pooled up pretty fast in a flash rain.

7-9 inch es are no joke, that must have been a shitty day.

We are required by our mortgage holder to have it,  and we treated it like an expense to be minimized. We bought right before hurricane Sandy came through and had no issues, so thought we were fine. After the adjuster came through and did her job, she pulled us aside for a chat. She said "up your coverage, this won't be the last time. I get busier every year, this is only getting worse."
